Tucked away at the back of the Porsche Factory Museum is the gem of the collection - at least for 914 fans. It is one of only two 914s built by the factory with an eight cylinder racing engine. Both cars were built as gifts for members of the Porsche family. Close observation will disclose that this is no ordinary 914. The headlight doors cover dual, rather than single, headlights; the gas filler cap can be accessed through a small door in the front trunk lid so that the trunk need not be opened to refuel, the exterior mirror is round; front parking light lenses are thick and flat topped; front bumper is a unique design; and the interior seats are unlike the stock items. It's fitting that Dr. Porsche is seen in the photo mural behind the 914/8 as it was presented to him as a birthday gift.
